Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda has said that there is no need of army deployment in the imminent Rangpur City Corporation polls.
The CEC said this to the journalists after a meeting with the law enforcement agencies, local government officials and election officials at divisional commissioner’s office in Rangpur on Thursday.
“The election will be free, fair and a credible one,” he said adding that four-tire security measures have been taken to keep the situation under control.
Mobile courts will be operated under the leadership of 33 magistrates to avert any untoward situation during the polls and from Friday there will be a mobile court in every ward, he said.
Citing all the measures will be taken to hold a free and fair election, the CEC said that action must be taken immediately if anyone violates electoral rule of law.
About Electronic Voting Machine he said, "It will be used in one polling station but it depends on the local people. If voters want, then EVM will be used, otherwise not.”
As per the schedule the second election to Rangpur City Corporation will be held on December 21.
