Two Rohingya persons were shot to death by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in the border area of Cox's Bazar's Teknaf as they were trying to enter Bangladesh from Myanmar with a consignment of Yaba tablets.

The incident took place in Hneela union's Naf river area under Teknaf upazila on Saturday morning.

Confirming the matter, Lt Col Asad-uz Zaman Chowdhury, commander of BGB Battalion-2 in Teknaf, said detail identities of the deceased were not known but it was ensured that they are Rohingya.

"The two crossed the Naf river by swimming with the Yaba consignment. BGB recovered 40,000 Yaba tablets from their possessions," he said.

Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, said police recovered the bodies and sent those to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue.
