Ruling Awami League on Saturday started selling the nomination papers for the upcoming by-polls of the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).

Two candidates willing to contest the DNCC by-polls under the banner of Awami League -- Rasel Asheki and Adom Tamiji Huq -- collected nomination papers.

They collected the nomination papers from the party president Sheikh Hasina's Dhanmondi political office today.

According to the AL sources, former President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association Atiqul Islam will collect the nomination papers this evening.

The by-polls for the mayoral post of Dhaka North City Corporation will be held on February 26.

According to the schedule, January 18 has been set for the last date of filing nomination paper while scrutiny will be held on January 21 and 22.

The closing date for nomination paper withdrawal is January 29.

Besides, the EC will arrange polls to the 36 councilor posts and 12 reserved seats in the 36 new wards – 18 of the DNCC and 18 of the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) — on the same day.

The DNCC mayoral post fell vacant after death of former mayor Annisul Huq on November 30 last year.
