BNP MP-elect Zahidur Rahman from Thakurgaon-3 took oath as a member of the 11th Parliament on Thursday, violating his party decision.

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury administered the swearing-in around 12:00pm at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban while parliament senior secretary Dr Zafar Ahmed Khan conducted the oath-taking ceremony.

With Zahidur's oath taking, 295 MPs-elect out of 300 in the 11th parliamentary polls have so far been sworn in.

Jatiya Oikyafront led by BNP got eight seats in the December 30 national elections. Of the total, Gonoforum got two seats while BNP got six seats.

Ignoring the party’s decision, the two Gonoforum MPs have already taken oath.

Meanwhile, Gonoforum has expelled Sultan Mohammad Monsur elected from Moulvibazar-2 from the party.
