A total of 1.8 lakh tonnes of urea would be bought by the government from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
The cabinet committee on public procurement today approved the import of fertilizer by the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC).
Of the total, Fertiglobe Distribution Limited in the UAE will receive Tk 189.28 crore from BCIC in exchange for 30,000 tonnes of granular urea.
The government agency would pay Tk 378.56 crore for 60,000 tonnes of granular urea sold by the Saudi Arabian company SABIC Agri-Nutrients Company.
Last Monday, the buying committee authorized BCIC to import 60,000 tonnes of urea for Tk 392 crore.
