National deworming campaign to start on January 22

The 27th National Deworming Campaign will begin in primary and secondary schools across the country on January 22.

During the course of the 10-day campaign, about 2.6 crore children between the ages of 5 and 16 would receive one deworming tablet each.

There will also be activities for the children outside of the classroom.

After three regions of the program underwent a successful test, the government started to expand it in 2005.

Since 2008, the government has regularly conducted the campaign around the country. Worm prevalence has thus fallen from 80% in 2015 to 7.95% at this time.
