The 24th session of the 11th parliament will begin at 5:00pm on September 3.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin has convened the session exercising power bestowed upon him as per Article 72 (1) of the constitution.
The 24th session might be the last session of the current parliament.
The last session of parliament ended on July 6.
As per the constitution, there is an obligation to convene parliament session within 60 days after the end of a session of parliament.
According to sources in the Parliament Secretariat, the duration of the session sitting in September of the year is usually very short. If no special circumstances arise, this will be the last session before the next national elections.
The schedule for the 12th parliamentary elections will probably be announced by the Election Commission in October.
