Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique on Monday formed 26 vacation benches of the Supreme Court's High Court (HC) division as the apex court went on a 34-day vacation from September 3.

According to a Supreme Court notification, a total of 26 vacation benches would operate in two phases while the 15 benches would run in the first phase from September 3 to September 19.

The notification signed by HC Deputy Registrar M. Mizanur Rahman said during the first phase 15 benches would operate and of them, 12 were two-judge benches while three others were single-judge ones.

The notification counted September 20 to October 5 as the second phase when 11 vacation benches would operate - seven being double and four being single ones.

Supreme Court officials said during the entire vacation period Justice M Enayetur Rahim would continue to perform as the chamber judge of the Appellate Division.

The notification appears to be one of the last directives of the incumbent Chief Justice as he is set to retire before the resumption of the Supreme Court after the vacation period.

Further details of these benches constituted have been published on the website of the Supreme Court.
