Govt to buy 20 lakh litres of saline

The government has approved a proposal to buy 20 lakh litres of saline for the treatment of Dengue patients in government hospitals in the country.

The approval came from a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) held with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair on Wednesday.

A source at the ministry said a policy-level approval was given for the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to procure 12 lakh pieces of 1000ml saline and 8 lakh pieces of saline IV fluid from Essential Drugs Company Limited.

The buying price of the saline would be fixed later, the source said.
