The High Court has directed the concerned authorities to conduct drive against adulterated and substandard products all the year round.

The HC bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik-Al Jalil handed down the directive on Sunday.

The HC came up with the order after a hearing over 52 products that failed quality tests of Bangladesh Standard Testing Institution (BSTI).

Besides, the HC asked the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) to launch a hotline within the next two months to ensure safe food items and examine those.

The HC also exempted Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) Chairman Mahfuzul Haque from contempt of court rule as he offered unconditional apology before the court for not complying with its order.

Earlier in the day, he appeared before the court and offered apology for not complying with the court’s May 12 order.

Earlier on May 12, the HC directed the authorities concerned to immediately remove 52 food products from the market which are found substandard by BSTI.
