An arrest warrant has been issued against Dr. Muhammad Yunus, founder of Grameen Bank and Nobel Peace Prize laureate.

Dhaka 3rd Labour Court chairman Rahibul Islam passed the order on Wednesday as Dr Yunus did not appear before it to respond to the summon issued against him earlier in three cases.

On July 3, three employees of Grameen Communications, the IT wing of Grameen Bank, filed three cases against three persons - Dr Yunus, the chairman of Grameen Communications, its Managing Director Naznin Sultana and Deputy General Manager Khandaker Abu Abedin - over sacking them for their role in formation of trade union at their workplace.

Dhaka 3rd Labour Court on October 8 summoned the trio to appear before it on October 9 for explanations in this regard.

The court granted bail to the two accused as they surrendered before the court and sought bail.

The arrest warrant was issued against Dr. Yunus as he did not appear before the court on Wednesday.
