The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) has removed AKM Mominul Haque Sayeed from his post of councilor of Ward No. 9 of Dhaka South City Corporation.

A notice was issued in this regard on Thursday.

The name of Sayeed, also the joint general secretary of Dhaka South Jubo League unit, came up for discussion after the launch of the anti-casino operation in the capital.

It is learnt that Sayeed was once associated with BNP politics. He was a smuggler in the city's Motijheel area. After the Awami League came to power, Sayeed also known as 'Tel (Oil) Sayeed', became a Jubo League leader. He has a cadre force who controls the entire Motijheel area.

Sayeed, who is one of the casino gamblers in some clubs, including the Wanderers Club, has been staying in Singapore before starting the anti-casino operation. He was not returning home due to the ongoing raids.
