Omar Faroque, his wife, sons' bank accounts frozen
A day after the removal of Omar Faroque Chowdhury from the post of chairman of the Jubo League, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has sent a letter to the banks to suspend all his bank transactions.
At the same time, accounts of Omar’s wife Sheikh Sultana Rekha, three sons and two companies were also frozen. The letter in this regard was sent to all banks from the central intelligence cell of NBR on Monday.
On October 3, Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has asked the concerned authorities of different banks to provide details information about the bank statements of Jubo League Chairman Mohammad Omar Faroque Chowdhury. In addition, the government has recently banned his departure from the country.
On Sunday, he has been removed from the post of chairman of Awami Jubo League.
The decision was taken at a meeting between Jubo League leaders and Prime Minister, also Awami League President Sheikh Hasina at the Ganabhaban.
Earlier in the meeting, Juba League chairman, its presidium members - Sheikh Fazlur Rahman Maruf, Nurunnabi Chowdhury Shaon MP and Atiur Rahman Dipu were not given permission to access to the prime minister's official residence to attend the meeting.
