BNP MP Harun may lose parliament membership
Harun Ur Rashid, a BNP lawmaker from Chapainawabganj 3 who has been convicted in the case of duty evasion by selling a duty-free car, may lose the membership of parliament.
The parliamentarian cannot even participate in the next National Parliament election if the High Court keeps the lower court’s verdict effective because he has been punished for moral degradation, according to the Constitution and rules of procedure of the National Parliament.
However, Harun has the opportunity to appeal against the verdict in the High Court.
A Dhaka court has sentenced BNP lawmaker Harun Ur Rashid to five years in jail in a case filed against him for embezzling money by selling a duty-free car.
Sheikh Nazmul Alam, a judge of Dhaka Special Judge's Court-4, passed the verdict on Monday.

According to the prosecution, Harun-ur-Rashid imported a duty-free vehicle in 2004 which was later sold out.
