Woman dies in Dhanmondi fire

A woman has died in a fire that broke out at a residential building in Dhanmondi in the capital on Saturday morning. 

In addition, two people were hospitalized after being sick due to smoke from the fire.

Bachchu Mia, in-charge of the police outpost at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said that three persons, including two women, were brought to the hospital. A woman was later pronounced dead by a doctor. He died of suffocation due to heavy smoke caused by the fire.

The identity of the casualties was not immediately known, Bachchu Mia added.

Earlier, a fire broke out on the third floor of a 12-storey residential building at Dhanmondi 6/A at around 9:25 am. On information, three fire service units went to the scene and put the fire under control.

Leader Azad, a control room officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defense Department, said fire fighters managed to extinguish the fire around 11 am after a frantic effort.

However, he did not provide any details about the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage.
