Bishwa Ijtema to be held in two phases
Bishwa Ijtema, the second largest congregation of Muslim community after Hajj, will be held in two phases on the bank of Turag River in Tongi of Gazipur.
The first phase of Bishwa Ijtema led by Maulana Jubayer will be held from January 10 to 12 while the second phase led by Maolana Saad from January 17 to 19 next year.
The decision was taken on Monday at a preparatory meeting for holding the Bishwa Ijtema at the home ministry conference room.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal told the Daily Samakal that the decision came from the consensus of representatives of two factions of Tabligh Jamaat.
Another meeting will be held to discuss on security measures on the occasion, he added.
Akheri Munajat of the first phase will be held on January 12 and the second phase on January 19.
State Minister for Religious Affairs Advocate Sheikh Md Abdullah and State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Zahid Ahsan Russel were present in the meeting.
Tabligh Jamaat Sources said that Biswa Ijtema has been held regularly on the bank of Turag since 1967. However, the religious gathering has been divided into two phases from 2011 to minimise traffic and misery. Later, the Ijtema was held separately because of internal feud between two groups of top leaders of the non-political Islamic organisation.
