Teachers demand removal, suspension of JU VC
The protesting teachers of Jahangirnagar University (JU) have demanded the removal of their Vice-Chancellor Professor Farzana Islam on charges of assaulting teachers and students and her corruption.
They also demanded the government to suspend the VC from the university.
The teachers made the demands at a 'solidarity rally' against corruption organized at the university's old administrative building at 12 noon on Wednesday.
The protesting teachers said, "Professor Farzana Islam was afraid of going to investigate the corruption allegations leveled against her. She did not listen to any demands and movements of the teachers-students. When the teachers and students finally stayed in front of his residence demanding her removal, the protestors were beaten up by the BCL men. After this incident, Professor Farzana Islam cannot be the vice-chancellor of the university. She has also lost the moral right to stay at the university as a teacher."
Expressing solidarity with the movement, Prof Anu Muhammad was present at the rally.
Among others, who attended the rally include Tanjim Uddin Khan, Prof of International Relations Department of Dhaka University, Prof Raihan Raine, Prof Sayeed Ferdous, Prof Mirza Taslima Sultana, Prof Kamrul Ahsan, Prof Anwarullah Bhuiyan, Prof Abdur Razzak, Prof Khobir Uddin, Prof Kabirul Bashar, Prof Sharmind Nilormi.
