5 women drown in Kaptai Lake

Five women were killed when a picnic boat sank in the Kaptai Lake in Rangamati.

The accident took place nearby the DC bungalow at around 12 noon on Friday.

Among the dead, four were immediately identified as Rina, Shila, Hasna and Afroza.

It is reported that a picnic bus reached Kaptai Lake in the morning from EPZ area of Chittagong. Later, the passengers boarded on two boats and traveled on the lake. Then, one of the boats sank in the lake.

Rangamati Sadar Hospital resident physician Dr. Shawkat Akbar confirmed the deaths of the five tourists.

Rangamati Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Limon Bose said five bodies were recovered and taken to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
