Mill owners, wholesalers, middlemen involved in profiteering conspiracy: Agriculture Minister
Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdur Razzak said that the mill owners, wholesalers and middlemen are involved in various conspiracies simultaneously to make huge profits.
He said food production in the country continues despite the Corona situation. Paddy has also had a very good yield in the last Boro season. But Aman paddy production is at risk due to prolonged floods. There is a fear that the production will not be as expected. So, the government is on high alert against the profiteers.
He said this after laying the foundation stone of Ahmmed Ali Memorial High School Flood Shelter at Dhanbari in Tangail on Sunday morning.
The shelter is being constructed under the Ministry of Relief and Disaster Management's 'Flood Shelter Construction Project' in flood-prone and river erosion areas.
The Agriculture Minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has always been agriculture-friendly and farmer-friendly. Under her leadership, the government has adopted an agri-friendly policy. Subsidies on agricultural inputs including fertilizers, seeds and irrigation and improved innovation and cultivation of crops have resulted in unprecedented development in food production in the country. Even in this disaster, there has been no food crisis in the country so far. In the days to come, the government has pre-preparedness so that there is no food crisis in any situation
The minister further said that the aim of the government is to ensure that no one in Bangladesh has to suffer for food. If required, small quantity of rice will be imported from abroad.
Madhupur Upazila Chairman Sarwar Alam Khan, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Arifa Zahura, various upazila level officials including Mayor Masud Parvez were present on the occasion.
