Syed Abul Maksud passes away

Noted columnist, researcher and writer Syed Abul Maksud has passed away on Tuesday evening. He was 74. 

He breathed his last at Square Hospital in Dhaka, said Syed Nasif Maksud, son of Abul Maksud.

Syed Abul Maksud was awarded the Bangla Academy Award in 1995 for his contribution to Bengali literature.

He was born on 23 October 1946 in the village of Elachipur in Shibalaya upazila of Manikganj.

His career began in 1964 with journalism in the weekly Nabayug, the mouthpiece of the Pakistan Socialist Party, edited by M Anisuzzaman. Later he worked in the weekly 'Janata' supported by the National Awami Party. He joined Bangladesh Barta Sangstha in 1971. On March 2 in 2008, he resigned from the editorial section of the news agency. 

Later, Syed Abul Maksud used to write regular columns in newspapers.
