Syria-return suspected militant held in Ctg

A team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Chattogram Metropolitan Police has arrested a Syria-return suspected militant on charges of involvement with the banned militant group Ansar al-Islam from city’s Khulshi area on Friday.

The arrested was identified as Shakhawat Ali alias Lalu, 40, son of Shamser Ali.

Ali is an IT specialist of Ansar al-Islam hailed from Shamser Ali Bari at WASA crossing in the city, said Counter Terrorism Unit SI Rashib Khan.

CTTC members recovered a book, a passport, tabs, mobile phones and laptop from his possession, he said.

“Lalu went to Syria from Bangladesh four years ago. He has returned to the country in March last,” police sources said.

A case under the Anti-Terrorism Act was filed against the militant by Sub-inspector (SI) of CTTC Rashib Khan.
