Ruling Awami League lawmaker SM Shahzada hung a placard round his neck demanding to construct a dam instead of providing relief for the people of his constituency.

Shahzada took part in the general discussion on the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2021-22 in parliament on Wednesday.

"There is no more demand, I don't want relief, I want a dam," reads the placard.

He spoke in support of the locals' demand for a permanent embankment in his coastal district.

Earlier in the morning, Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury presided over the sitting.

The nephew of incumbent Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda and the MP from Patuakhali-3 told the parliament that he had gone to his constituency with relief after the recent cyclone and had to face the wrath of the people there.

Many coastal MPs have to deal with such a situation, he added.

He said the locals hung such a placard when he visited to the area with relief items.
