Govt to produce vaccines in country: PM
Apart from collecting corona vaccines from abroad, the government has taken initiatives to produce vaccines in the country, said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
To this end, discussions are underway with various countries and manufacturing companies on the issue of technology transfer.
The Prime Minister said this in response to a question from Monira Sultana, an MP from the reserved seat in the Parliament on Wednesday.
Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury presided over the question and answer session.
The Prime Minister said the present government has taken various important steps from the very beginning to ensure the protection of public health from the Corona pandemic.
Educational institutions were declared closed with nationwide and regional lockdown effective. The government has also taken various incentive measures to save livelihood and economy, including providing relief assistance to the poor.
Bangladesh has proved more capable than many developed countries, including South Asia, in preventing the spread of corona.
The government has been providing necessary corona testing to medical personnel, nurses, health workers, law enforcement agencies, administration, and elderly people.
It has provided safety equipment for frontline combatants, provided financial incentives, imported test kits on time and set up labs in different parts of the country.
