A Bangladeshi student died when snatchers allegedly shoved her over a subway rail in New York, according to the US-based Bangla weekly Thikana.

Zinat Hossain (24), a Hunter College student in Brooklyn, died on the scene after being crushed under the train on May 11 at 9:00 p.m. local time.

Bangladeshis in New York are warning their fellow expats to be more cautious when riding the train.

According to the newspaper, New York authorities have yet to confirm the identity of the snatchers. It was also unclear whether Zinat had been the victim of a hate crime. Police believe that snatchers attempted to take away Zinat's luggage and that she was forced towards the subway rail track at one point.
