“We will have to take forward women through inclusive development and inclusive growth. Due to the initiatives of the government, grassroots women are becoming self-reliant,” she said, speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural session of a two-day programme at the Gulshan Youth Club in the city, reports BSS.

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) organised the programme on “16 Days Activism Campaign-2019”.

DNCC Mayor Md Atiqul Islam presided over the programme while Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Post Tele Communication and Information Technology AKM Rahmatullah was present as the special guest.

Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said Bangladesh has become a bright example for women empowerment.

“Today, the opportunity of higher education for women has increased as the government has taken various initiatives, including offering scholarship and forming the Prime Minister’s Education Assistance Trust,” she added.

The country’s legal framework against repression of women is very strong, the speaker said, adding the violence against women will reduce through effective enforcement of the law.
