Lightning strike kills 3 in Naogaon

Three people, including two women, died after being struck by lightning in Naogaon. They died in two separate incidents in Mohadebpur and Porsha upazilas on Saturday.

The deceased are Shrimoti Pahan, 27, wife of Nepal Pahan, and Sobani Pahan, 65, both from Silimpur village of Raigaon union under Mohadebpur upazila, and Rafiqul Islam, 50, from Chakbishnupur village of Porsha upazila.

Quoting locals, Mohadebpur Police Station Officer in Charge Mozaffar Hossain said Shrimoti and Sohabi Pahan were both working in a field next to their homes. Suddenly a thundershower started and they were both struck by lightning, dying on the spot.

Porsha Police Station Officer in Charge Zahurul Islam said, Rafiqul Islam left the house in the afternoon to go fishing in the Punarbhaba river, where a lightning strike killed him. After learning about the tragic incident, his family recovered the body.
