9 injured as ceiling of Noakhali hospital caves in

Nine people were injured when a large chunk of concrete plaster ceiling caved in at Noakhali 250-bed General Hospital on Wednesday morning.

The incident took place at 6:20am in Unit 2 of No 4 Children Ward of the hospital, said Humayun Kabir, senior station officer of Maizdi Fire Service and Civil Defence.

The injured are: Rafi, 2 years and 6 months, Md. Ismail, 5, Imam Uddin, 5, Sumaiya, 12, Md. Rasel, 16, Md. Ibrahim, 50, Parul Begum, 47, Badsha, 35, and Rozina Begum, 20. 

A fire service team went to the hospital and conducted a rescue operation with the assistance of the hospital authorities.

Fariduddin Ahmed, assistant director of the hospital, blamed the ceiling collapse on the building’s dilapidated condition.
