2 students killed in Rangpur road crash

Two students were killed in a collision between a tractor and a school van in Mithapukur upazila of Rangpur.

The accident took place on Wednesday morning at Dabra crossing area of Shathibari Mahiyarpur of the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Anwar Hosain, 18, a second-year student of Shathibari Degree College, and Al-Farabi, 7, a third-grade student of Shathibari Kabi Nazrul Islam School.

Officer-in-Charge of Mithapukur Police Station Zafar Ali Biswas said that a collision between a tractor and a school van took place in the area at around 10:30am, leaving Farabi and Anwar, van passengers, dead on the spot. 

However, the tractor driver managed to flee the scene. Later, the agitated mob burned the tractor. On receiving the news, police and fire service personnel rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies of the victims.

The OC said that a tense situation was prevailing in the area over the death of two students. Police, however, are ready to handle any untoward incident.
