Woman, daughter, among three, killed in Sylhet road crash

Three people, including a woman and her daughter, were killed when a Habiganj Express bus hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Lalabazar on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in South Surma on Wednesday afternoon.

Monirul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of South Surma Police Station, told The Daily Samakal that the deceased were identified as homoeopathic doctor Cherag Ali's wife Rahela Begum, 50, their daughter Kamrunnahar Shipa, 22, and auto-rickshaw driver Shamim Mia, 35, of Niz Kurua village in Osmaninagar.

Upon receiving the news, South Surma police went to the spot and recovered the bodies of the deceased and sent them to the morgue of MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, he said.

The accident took place when the auto-passengers moved to Sylhet by an auto-rickshaw from their Bishwanath's residence. 

Woman and her daughter died on the spot while auto-rickshaw driver was pronounced dead by doctors after taking him to Osmani Medical College Hospital in critical condition.

The bus driver fled the scene soon after the accident.
