The protesting students of Rajshahi University (RU) have halted their protest program until 10 am on Sunday after getting assurance of the university administration.

They blocked the Dhaka-Rajshahi highway on Saturday morning after they came to know that one of their fellows was allegedly beat up at a dormitory in the early hours of Saturday by Asif and Humayun Kabir, Chhatra League activists of the university unit.

Victim Shohrab Mia, a third-year student of finance department, suffered injuries to his head and he received 15 stiches to his head.

He is now undergoing treatment at Ward No. 8 of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).

After spreading the news, students staged a demonstration on Saturday morning on the campus in protest against the incident.

Later, they blocked the Dhaka-Rajshahi highway in front of the main gate of the university.

The protesting students demanded exemplary punishment for the BCL activists involved.
