People bid adieu to Ajoy Roy

People from all walks of life are paying their last respects to Ekushey Padak winner, freedom fighter and retired Dhaka University physics teacher, Professor Ajoy Roy, at Central Shaheed Minar on Tuesday.

His body was taken to Central Shaheed Minar at 11 am where peers, fans and well-wishers along with different paid tribute by placing floral wreaths.

He breathed his last at around 12:30 pm on Monday while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Center (ICU) of BIRDEM Hospital in the capital.

Professor Ajoy Roy is the father of Avijit Roy, who was killed in an attack carried out by the terrorists. Ajoy Roy was admitted to BIRDEM Hospital about two weeks ago with fever and shortness of breath. He was later taken to the ICU at the hospital when the condition worsened and there he was undergoing treatment.

The founder of the Education Movement Forum, Professor Ajoy Roy is also one of the founders of the Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee. The active participation of freedom fighter Ajoy Roy was also in the language movement and in the mass uprising of 1969.
