The students, who are accused of killing Abrar Fahad, a student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), were accustomed to disorderly lifestyle, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner Monirul Islam.

"We believe that the murder of Abrar Fahad took place as part of the accusers' unrestrained activities in the name of ragging," he said. Had the hall administration and the university administration already monitored such events, such a brutal killing incident would not have happened. They tortured newcomers in the name of ragging when no one greeted them, disagreed, smiled in front of them," said Monirul.

The police official said this at a press conference at DMP's media centre in the city on Wednesday afternoon.

The press conference also highlighted the role of each and every accused of the killing.

Four of the 25 accused went into hiding while the remaining 21 are in jail.

On Wednesday, police have submitted charge sheet accusing 25 people in the killing case of Abrar Fahad.

Abrar, 21, a second-year student of electrical and electronic engineering department of BUET, was beaten to death reportedly by BCL leaders at Sher-e-Bangla Hall of the university.

He was found dead on the staircase of the dormitory in the early hours of October 7.

Earlier, he was taken to room-2011 around 8:00 pm on October 6.

Victim’s father Barkatullah filed a case with Chawkbazar Police Station in the capital against 19 people over the brutal murder.
