Khoka’s first namaz-e-janaza held in New York

The first namaz-e-janaza of Sadeque Hossain Khoka, BNP vice-chairman and former mayor of undivided Dhaka City Corporation, was held in New York, US.

The janaza took place at 8:30 am (Bangladesh time) at Jamaica Muslim Centre Mosque.

Khoka's body is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka by an Emirates Airlines flight at 8:10 am on Thursday. Preparation has been taken to bury him next to her parents' graves at Jurine Graveyard in the capital.

Khoka breathed his last at noon on Monday (Bangladesh time) while undergoing treatment at a New York hospital in US.

The BNP leader has been in New York with his wife since May 14, 2014 for cancer treatment. He was elected mayor of the Dhaka City Corporation on April 25, 2002. He was the mayor of Dhaka metropolis for ten consecutive years till November 29, 2011. 

A Dhaka court sentenced Khoka and three others to 10 years' imprisonment in absentia in a graft case. Arrest warrants were also issued for them.
