Moslem Uddin gets AL ticket for Chattogram-8 by-polls
Bangladesh Awami League (AL) has picked up Moslem Uddin Ahmed, the Chattogram south district unit president, to contest the Chattogram-8 by-elections slated for January 13.
The nomination was finalized at a meeting of the AL Parliamentary Board and Local Government Election Nomination Board held at Ganabhaban, the official residence of the prime minister, Monday night, reports BSS.
AL Parliamentary Board and Local Government Election Nomination Board Chief and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina chaired the meeting.
“The meeting unanimously nominated Moslem Uddin Ahmed for contesting the Chattogram-8 (Boalkhali) by-poll,” an AL press release signed by its Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap said.
The constituency fell vacant due to death of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) lawmaker Moin Uddin Khan Badal on November 7.
Badal, also JSD executive president, was elected MP with the “boat” symbol from the constituency in three consecutive polls, between 2008 and 2018.
The meeting also nominated Nur Hossain as the AL chairman candidate in Haimchar upazila parishad polls in Chandpur and Enamul Haque T Rana as the mayoral candidate in Dupchachia Pourasabha election in Bogura, the release said.
