No response from government: Fakhrul
Despite making attempts to release BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail, the party did not get any response from the government, said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
He said this at a BNP protest rally in its Nayapaltan central office in the city on Saturday.
Fakhrul said, "Khaleda Zia has fought for democracy all her life. She has been detained for two years and seven months without any offense. She is very sick."
He went on saying, "We have repeatedly sought release of her (Khaleda Zia), demanded bail and demanded better treatment through her release. We have not received any response from the government."
The BNP announced to hold a procession from in front of the Nayapaltan office at 2pm on Saturday as part of a nationwide demonstration program demanding the release of the imprisoned chairperson Khaleda Zia.
The party rallied in front of the central office as it did not get permission for the procession.
