Independent mayoral candidate for the Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) election, Advocate Taimur Alam Khandaker, sought the intervention of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for a fair and neutral election.

At the same time, he warned that if any of his leaders and activists were arrested, he would take position in front of the police super office from there he will conduct the election. The countrymen will be with him, he believed.

The newly-released BNP leader made the remarks at a press conference at the main election center in the city's Missionpara area on Tuesday morning.

"On Monday night, 17 of my workers were arrested from the port," Taimur said, adding, “Homes of at least 40 people have been raided. Monirul Islam, the acting convener of the district BNP, my chief election coordinator, was also arrested on Monday evening.”
