World winners return home with trophy
The Bangladesh Under-19 team has arrived home with the ICC Under-19 World Cup trophy.
The Akbar Ali-led world champions were accorded a small reception at the airport lounge soon after they landed at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 5 pm on Wednesday.
The Tigers clinched the maiden world trophy for Bangladesh beating their Indian counterparts in the final in Potchefstroom, South Africa on Sunday.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chairperson Nazmul Hasan Papan were present at the airport to pick them up. BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury and media committee chairman Jalal Yunus and others were also present to receive the young Tigers.
A reception will be given to them by the Cricket Board at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur in the evening.
For the first time, Bangladesh is in the final of a global tournament. They won the World Cup for the first time in a fierce battle against India, the four-time champion winner.
