Bangladesh Test skipper Mominul Haque announced that Shakib Al Hasan will play the first Test against Sri Lanka, which will begin on Sunday in Chattogram.

Mominul made the disclosure at the pre-match press conference on Saturday.

Shakib's participation was in doubt after the top player tested positive for the coronavirus on Tuesday after returning from the United States.

Shakib, on the other hand, came up negative for Covid-19, much to the delight of the Tigers' contingent.

Shakib had tested negative twice after taking testing on his own accord before being tested at a BCB-approved facility and returning another negative test, according to BCB president Nazmul Hassan.

He joined the team at the Bangladesh team's hotel on Friday.

Shakib batted in the nets during Bangladesh's optional practice session on Saturday, with Mohammad Saifuddin bowling.

BCB has yet to issue a statement on whether Shakib has been re-inducted into the lineup after being ruled out of the first Test due to a positive Covid-19 test.
