Global Covid-19 death toll crosses 700,000
The global Covid-19 deaths surpassed 700,000 on Wednesday, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
In the morning, data compiled by JHU showed the globally confirmed cases rising at 18,540,119.
The US has the highest number of cases (4,771,080) and deaths (156,801).
It is followed by Brazil with 2,801,921 cases and 95,819 deaths. India is the third worst-hit country with 1,908,254 confirmed cases and 39,795 deaths.
Mexico has the third highest number of deaths at 48,869, followed by the UK (46,295).
Coronavirus cases were first reported in China’s Hubei province in December last year. The World Health Organization declared it a pandemic in March.
Hubei did not report any new case on Wednesday.
