RAB uses force only where it’s necessary: DG

Outgoing Director General of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun said that the elite force only uses force where it is necessary.

When questioned if RAB had ceased the "crossfire" or "gunfight" because of the US sanctions, Mamun came up with the replay on Wednesday.

It is reported that after December 10 of last year, when the United States imposed sanctions relating to human rights on the RAB and seven of its top officials, the number of gunfight events has decreased dramatically.

One of the seven officials is Mamun, who will take over as Inspector General of Police (IGP) on September 30 after serving as RAB DG for the previous two years and five months.

When asked whether RAB's operations have decreased recently, RAB DG said, "We use force only where necessary. We take action as per the situation demands. We take action as per existing law."
