HC rules for compensating child amputee Tk4.22cr

A High Court division bench on Monday issued a rule asking why the court would not give directions to compensate the 11-year-old, who was electrocuted due to the negligence of the concerned parties and lost a hand.

The bench comprising Justice KM Kamrul Kader and Justice Mohammad Showkat Ali Chowdhury issued the rule after holding a hearing on a writ brought by the victim's father.

At the same time, the court wanted to know why the negligence, inaction of those concerned in taking necessary measures should not be declared illegal.

Power Secretary, Chairman of Rural Electrification Board, Chairman and General Manager of Feni Palli Bidyut Samiti, Deputy General Manager of Chagalnaya Zone Palli Bidyut Samiti and owner of the concerned house Sheikh Azizul Haque Nishan have been asked to respond to the rule within four weeks.

On July 31 last year, the victim was severely electrocuted by an exposed wire while playing on the balcony, which caused severe burns to his left hand, leg and other parts of his body.

In order to save his life, the left wrist was amputated.

"Around Tk 40 lakh will be needed to provide him a prosthetic hand (artificial limb). Also, more that Tk 22 lakh has been spent for his treatment so far," writ petitioner Advocate Mohammad Monirul Islam Mia told BSS.

"The Deputy General Manager of Chhaglanaya Zone has been informed claiming future compensation of Tk 3.60 crore, for the victim keeping his disability in mind. But as they did not take any action the victim's father filed the writ," he added.
