Envoy of any country won’t get additional security: Momen

Ambassadors and High Commissioners of any country will no longer get additional security privileges, Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen told The Daily Samakal.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said, “Additional security will not be given to the ambassador of any country. If someone needs it, the envoy should apply to the government for this.” 

“No decision has been made that the ambassador cannot use the flag on the car,” he added.

Kamal also said, "The security of VIPs and VVIPs will be given to the guard regiment consisting of Ansars. The police will be taken for doing other work.”

“Ambassadors will get all kinds of security. Only the vehicle that was extra in the protocol during their movement has been withdrawn for the time being. However, the police security cars in front and behind the ambassadors' cars will remain the same,” Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner of Media and Public Relations Faruk Hossain told The Daily Samakal.

Faruk also said, "The extra car was kept so that a policeman who is in charge of security can act as a substitute if a policeman suddenly falls ill or there is a problem with the car. However, due to the shortage of manpower and vehicles in other departments of the police, this decision has been taken temporarily.”

When asked about the reduction of security by the government, the US Embassy in Dhaka said the host country must adhere to the Vienna Code of Conduct for diplomats.
