Heart rings’ new price to be effective from Oct 01

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has fixed the new price of heart rings (stents) to be effective from October 01 this year.

 “As per the instructions of the ministry, the new price of heart rings (stents) will be effective from October 01,” Director of the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) Dr. Md Akhter Hossain told journalists at a briefing on Tuesday.

“The ministry’s expert committee suggested to rationally re-fix the prices of all medical devices regarding this in phases,” he added.

Akhter Hossain also said if heart rings are purchased at the new price, the medical expenses of patients will be significantly reduced from Taka 3,000 to Taka  88,000.

Heart Rings (Annuloplasty Rings) or stents are used to open blocked or narrowed arteries, often in the context of coronary artery disease.

Earlier on August 3, the incumbent government reduced the prices of 10 types of stents of the three companies.
