DMP commissioner Sajjat Ali resigns

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sazzat Ali has stepped down from his post, citing personal and family reasons. He submitted his resignation letter on Wednesday morning.

Sajjat Ali himself confirmed the matter to Daily Samakal. His resignation comes just a day after a major change in the post of Inspector General of Police (IGP).

An officer of the 1984 BCS Police cadre, Sazzat Ali began his career with a wide range of experience. In his early years, he served as the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the DMP’s Tejgaon Division and as the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Lakshmipur.

Throughout his career, he held the position of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) for both the Chittagong and Dhaka Ranges.

Furthermore, he played a pivotal role as the DIG of the Highway Police upon its formation and later served as an Additional IGP at the Police Headquarters.

Hailing from Shailkupa in Jhenaidah, Sazzat Ali took charge as the DMP Commissioner on November 21, 2024, succeeding Md. Mainul Hasan.
