Appellate Division upholds Ivy’s bail in 10 cases; no bar on release

The Appellate Division has upheld the bail granted to former Narayanganj mayor Dr Selina Hayat Ivy by the High Court in 10 cases. 

The Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury gave this order on Sunday.

Ivy’s lawyer said there is no bar to her release. Senior lawyer Barrister Sara Hossain and Advocate Motahar Hossain Saju appeared on behalf of Ivy in the court.

Ivy was arrested on May 9 last year from Chunka Kutir in the city’s Deobhog area. After that, she was shown arrested in various cases. Later, the High Court granted her bail in five cases. Then it was suspended in the Appellate Division.

On November 18, she was shown arrested in five more cases. Then the High Court bench granted her bail on February 26.

Out of the five cases, she was shown arrested in four cases. They are the murder of bus driver Abul Hossain Miji at Fatulla Police Station, the murder of Abdur Rahman, Md Yasin murder and Parvez murder cases.

The other case was filed with Sadar Model Police Station on charges of assault and obstructing government work.

The state then applied to the Appellate Division for a stay of bail. On March 5, the Appellate Division’s Chamber Court suspended the bail order granted by the High Court. At the same time, it sent the matter to the regular bench for hearing. She has been shown arrested in two more cases. She got bail from the High Court in these cases.
