Tofail Ahmed’s first namaz-e-janaza set to be held in Dhanmondi

The first namaz-e-janaza of Tofail Ahmed, one of the organisers of the 1970s mass uprising and the great liberation war, former minister and senior Awami League leader, will be held at Taqwa Mosque in Dhanmondi in the capital.

Multiple family sources and his personal assistant Abul Khair confirmed the information to the media.

Tofail died at the capital’s Square Hospital at 3:30 pm on Monday. 

The hospital authorities and the family have confirmed the matter to the media. 

Tofail was 82 years old at the time of his death.

The hospital authorities said in a press release that Tofail Ahmed was admitted to the hospital on September 24 last year with pneumonia-related breathing problems, heart disease and physical weakness. He was on life support there.

His son-in-law and former MP Dr. Towhiduzzaman Tuhin said that Tofail Ahmed had been suffering from various complications related to old age for a long time. He is survived by a daughter and numerous well-wishers.

In the afternoon, Tofail Ahmed’s relatives at Square Hospital said that the body is being taken to Taqwa Mosque at 12/A in Dhanmondi. 

The body will be bathed there and the first namaz-e-janaza will be held after Maghrib prayers. Later, it will be brought to the Square Hospital’s cold storage.

Tofail Ahmed’s personal assistant Abul Khair said that the body of Tofail will be taken to his home district of Bhola by helicopter on Tuesday. 

He will be buried next to his mother’s grave after the namaz-e-janaza at Circuit House Maidan.

The veteran AL politician had been suffering from paralysis and other physical problems for a long time.
