Students protest again in Chattogram demanding education minister’s resignation

Students from various educational institutions in Chattogram have been protesting for the second day in a row, protesting the decision to hold HSC exams in flood-hit areas and demanding the resignation of the education minister.

They gathered at Gate No. 2 intersection in the city around 3 pm on Wednesday and started the protest. At that time, the aggrieved students raised various slogans, including ‘One point, one demand – education minister’s resignation’.

The students alleged that the decision to hold HSC exams in flood-hit areas is completely unreasonable and inhumane. They said that this decision was taken without considering the suffering of the students. The education minister cannot avoid responsibility for this. Therefore, they have taken to the streets again, demanding his resignation.

The protesters also said that many students fell ill while going to the examination centre in heavy rain. They strongly protested and condemned the decision taken by the education ministry without considering the overall situation.

Students suddenly went on a protest demanding the resignation of Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon in protest at the HSC exam being held amid continuous rain and waterlogging and his objectionable comments about students. 

Amidst their protest throughout the day on Tuesday, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman called the education minister for an emergency meeting in Parliament. 

Later in the evening, the education minister formally apologised for his comments while speaking in Parliament. At the same time, he said that arrangements would be made to retake the postponed or damaged exams if necessary for the convenience of students.
