Students set deadline for Milon’s resignation

After setting a deadline for Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon's resignation, agitating students have left Shahbagh intersection after putting a one-and-a-half-hour blockade in the area. 

The students started the blockade from 6 pm on Wednesday. Later, they announced the postponement of the program around 7:30 pm and moved off the road.

During this time, the protesters demonstrated for various demands, including the resignation of the education minister. 

Earlier, due to the blockade at Shahbagh intersection, traffic on the road was completely stopped, affecting Shahbagh, Matsya Bhaban, Bangla Motor, Kakrail, TSC, Dhaka Medical College Hospital and other important roads nearby. 

Office-returning passengers, patients and other common people were stuck in traffic jams and suffered much.

Many passengers were seen suffering immensely due to being stuck in vehicles for a long time. Some tried to avoid the traffic jam by walking to their destinations. This further increased the suffering of common people on the road.

On behalf of the protesting students, Dhanmondi Ideal College student Rahat Ahmed told reporters, "People are suffering because the roads are closed. We don't want suffering. That's why we are postponing the programme for Wednesday. We have only one demand, the education minister must resign." 

He said, “The education minister must resign by 10 pm on Wednesday. Otherwise, we will hold a long march to the Secretariat programme from Science Laboratory intersection in the capital at 10 am on Thursday.” 

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Anisur Rahman told Daily Samakal in the evening that students blocked several roads in Dhaka, causing traffic jams on other roads as well as traffic on those roads. 

He went on saying, “We tried to convince them and keep the traffic on the roads normal.”
