BRAC University unveils ‘Centre for Energy and Logistics’

BRAC University has officially introduced a new interdisciplinary initiative, the 'Centre for Energy and Logistics' (CEL), dedicated to driving education, research, innovation, policy framing, and capacity development across the energy and logistics landscapes.

As outlined in its official brochure, the centre’s core agenda centers on three key domains— logistics, energy, and the critical intersection where both sectors meet.

CEL draws on the joint synergies of the global development network BRAC and BRAC University, taking advantage of collaborative ties with its affiliate schools and institutes.

The establishment of CEL comes at a crucial moment, aiming to tackle pressing issues such as the global energy transition, climate change, digital transformation, and shifting international trade dynamics—with a particular focus on Bangladesh’s swift industrialization, urban expansion, and economic momentum.

With the vision of establishing itself as a premier hub of excellence for the Global South, CEL aims to deepen domain knowledge and foster data-driven decision-making across energy and logistics ecosystems.

Within the energy area, the centre's research and activities will cover renewable energy, energy security, market dynamics, sustainable finance, operational efficiency, climate policy, and regional grid integration.

At the cross-section of both industries, CEL will address critical topics such as industrial decarbonization, eco-friendly green ports, alternative fuel adoption, battery supply chains, artificial intelligence, digital technologies, climate-resilient infrastructure, and supply-chain robustness.

Under the direction of a multi-stakeholder advisory council, the platform will offer academic courses, executive training, professional development initiatives, policy dialogues, collaborative research, and specialized consulting services.

Economist Sultan Hafeez Rahman heads the initiative as chairperson, while Prof. M. Fouzul Kabir Khan, an economist, educator and former adviser to the interim government, serves as the director.

The centre has already built a strong network of fellows and domain specialists spanning academia, state administration, industry, engineering, finance, and transport, and has commenced hosting seminars on critical energy and power-sector matters.
