Court sets Oct 22 for probe report on Gazi Nazrul’s wife’s suicide

A Dhaka court on Monday set October 22 for filing probe report in a case lodged against three people, including Satkhira-4 lawmaker Gazi Mohammad Nazrul Islam and his first wife Maksuda Islam, over allegedly abetting his second wife, Mariam Khatun, to commit suicide.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam passed the order, accepting the first information report (FIR) filed in the case.

Police recovered Mariam's body hanging from a ceiling fan inside Flat No. 203 on the third floor of Building No. 5 of NAM Bhaban in the evening of September 20.

The Satkhira-4 lawmaker and his first wife were taken into custody after the recovery of the body.

Mariam's father SM Masum Billah filed the case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on Monday morning against Gazi Mohammad Nazrul Islam, Maksuda Islam and Mariam's maternal uncle Obaidur Rahman for allegedly abetting her suicide.

Earlier in the day, a separate court  has placed the lawmaker on a four-day remand and his first wife Maksuda on one-day remand in the case.
